You may have already heard that there is a new device that connects to your PS3 via USB and allows you to jailbreak it, by all accounts this device does work. What it basically does is allow you to rip PS3 games and install them either to the consoles’ harddrive or a USB flash drive, it also tricks the PS3 into thinking that the ripped copy is a retail disc. Theres no doubt that this device will open a lot of doors for piracy on the PS3 and I don’t like it one bit.
Yes, I know most of you don’t like to pay $60/per game, I buy all my games and I can relate to that; I completely agree that $60 for a game is too expensive but there are legitimate ways to get games on the cheap. If you need help finding them check out my tips for buying games on a budget. Despite being a CAG, you’re going about it the wrong way by pirating a game that takes a tremendous amount of work to develop. Game developers constantly have to push toward providing bigger and better gaming experience and all that effort basically goes in the toilet thanks to piracy. Ultimately, piracy also hurts the consumer; Because of rampant piracy most game companies have stopped supporting the PSP, because of piracy you now see more and more PC games adopt oppressive DRM or a pay-to-play strategies. It forces game companies to make really difficult decisions that are not popular but it has to be done in order to fight piracy.
Going back to this PSJailbreak crap, $130 is way to much money to “jailbreak” your PS3 – but thats what this device will cost you. $130 can also get you 8 months of Gamefly service, almost a year of all the games you can rent along with discounts on purchases; You could probably rent between 5 to 7 games a month, and that’s way more convenient than downloading a +25GB game from a torrent site. If you did use PSJailbreak and you pirated Modern Warfare 2 for instance, ok now what? You can’t play it online and if you do you will eventually get caught by Sony and have your console banned. Just like Microsoft – once your console is banned, it’s banned for life and there’s no way to appeal their decision. What good is a PS3 if you can’t use it online? It’s basically useless!
I can’t tell you what to do, I’m not your father; You’ll either agree with me or you wont – either way is fine. The bottom line is next time you go to your local Gamestop and you see the next Call of Duty game and the price reads $69.99 and also reads you must be connected to PSN at all time, blame Johnny-F**kface (thank you Robby for that one!) and his pirating buddies for using the PSJailbreak to steal games.

I love this article! I can’t stand the people who talk about how cool it is to “hack” thier systems and jailbreak it.
“Oh its not for stealing games I want to test the limits of my system and find new functionality”
RIIIIGHT…
And all you l33t haxors who paid $130 for this are just wanting to read pdfs and maybe run linux servers for your music.
Screw you dudes! This industry can’t handle rampant stealing of that magnitude, don’t believe me?
The Psp was almost killed by piracy. Also why take a risk on spending a mil on a new game engine and IP if everyone is just gonna STEAL it when its cheaper to make COD games over and over again.
Jailbreakers/Modders/Hackers what ever the hell you wanna call yourself, you are killing it for the rest of us and COSTING ME MORE MONEY AND TIME I COULD BE SPENDING PLAYING GAMES BUT INSTEAD DOWNLOADING CONSOLE UPDATES.
Get Bent F**kfaces
People that equate modchips with piracy are beginning to become a real problem for homebrew developers and users. I get it – you don’t condone piracy. Most homebrew fans don’t either, and actively speak out against it. But they still need a way to run their software after Sony got rid of Other OS. Blame the pirates, not the technology. :/
I could care less about homebrew users but there are way more pirates then homebrewers and once the system is compromised the pirates flood in… Ruins it for the homebrewers and gamers alike.
I have no problem with the homebrew scene, as a matter of fact I LOVE the homebrew scene. Like Robby said there’s more people going use this for piracy than development…and we gamers can’t have that.
