Resistance: Retribution

Resistance: Retribution

The Chimera are wrecking havok in your pocket!

That is essentially what Resistance: Retribution is about and thats not a bad thing!

As James Grayson you are on a side mission / revenge quest in a story thats separate from Nathan Hale’s missions in Retribution’s big brothers Resistance:FoM and Resistance 2.

For the most part gameplay hasn’t changed, just made pocket sized. The story mode consists of you as Grayson killing your way through the Chimera as you help your new buddies, the military group the Marquis, with easily forgettable story about a scientist and his daughter who together have discovered a way to infect the Chimera with a virus but , of course, the mission takes you into the heart of the Chimera’s base on a seemingly one way mission of rescue and friendship moments…. yeah whatever… Basically you shoot your way through Chimera of all sizes using the weapons found in Resistance: FoM. and make your way to the end of a game with very little traps and puzzles,  just a growing degree of tougher better organized baddies.

The controls for the game feel very similar to the controls for the 2 Syphon Filter games for the PSP, and I have to say, they actually work well for a handheld with only one analog stick. Using a combo of the action buttons and the nub for movements and the dpad for weapons switching and jumping over/climbing up walls or activating switches, then weapon firing and alt fire are left to the shoulder buttons which just feels natural. This combo makes it easy to pickup and remember the controls after taking long breaks between playing, which being a portable game, you probably will.

This game adds nothing to the storyline, just a side mission with lots of shoot’em up action but its still worth the adventure to play some Resistance on the go. I would recommend this game for those who played and enjoyed the Syphon Filter games on PSP, are fans of the PS3 Resistance games and fans of shooters who want action on the go.For $29.99 retail its worth the purchase to add to your Resistance collection on your shelf.
